Triple champion Chen quits as China's aura fades

Three-time Olympic champion Chen Yibing announced his retirement from gymnastics on Monday, on a day when China's iron grip on the sport was weakened once again.

Dominant on home soil in Beijing four years ago, when they won nine of the 14 gymnastics gold medals at stake, China have occasionally looked a pale imitation of themselves in London.

Despite victories for the men's team and for Zou Kai in the men's floor exercise, China have seen their other Olympic titles wrenched from their grasp one by one.

Chen and He Kexin were the latest champions to lose their crowns, with Chen narrowly edged by Brazil's Arthur Zanetti in the men's rings final and He beaten by Russia's Aliya Mustafina on the uneven bars.

Chen kissed the apparatus after completing his routine and later revealed that it was a farewell kiss, bringing down the curtain on a career that has also seen him win eight World Championship golds and four Asian Games titles.

"I think there are more brilliant people coming out of China, younger and greater," he explained.

"There are many young athletes, and I'm sure they will have better results. I'm sure after my retirement there will be more champions to come out of China."

Chen said he had been surprised to see Zanetti win gold, describing the Brazilian's landing as "not great", but he said he felt that he had improved personally since his rings triumph four years ago.

"Today, compared to Beijing, I think I was better," he said.

"Psychologically and physically, I was well prepared. I was very familiar with my routine. I thought I performed better."

Like Chen, He was also the first gymnast to take to the floor in her event final, but she, too, had to suffer the agony of seeing her score bettered by a rival.

He finished with a score of 15.933, which was 0.200 points below Mustafina, but she said she was pleased by her performance.

"I'm quite happy and satisfied. I think I did what I could," she said.

"Physically I have trained myself to be very, very familiar with the routine. I mastered every move."

China's disappointment contrasted starkly with South Korea's joy at seeing Yang Hak-Seon claim the country's first ever Olympic gymnastics gold by triumphing in the men's vault final.

Yang finished above Russia's Denis Ablyazin and Igor Radivilov of Ukraine, and said he hoped to inspire Korean youngsters to seek to emulate his success.

"Korea's aim is to be in the top 10 in the total medal chart and I'm happy to contribute to that," said the 19-year-old, whose signature vault is a triple-twisting front somersault that bears his name.

"Gymnastics is not a very popular sport in Korea. But rather than trying to inspire people who are training at the moment, I'd like to inspire people who are a bit younger than me to have a go."

Wholesale Bulk Tea and Wholesale Tea Bags ? Get it All! | Desserts

Food and Drinks | Desserts | * Written by Robert Henson | Monday, 06 August 2012 00:58 | Word Count: 423

Some people may think, "Why on earth would I want to buy wholesale bulk tea when I can find it cheaply at the grocery store?" There are several answers to that question. The first answer is that you can find large quantities of your favorite organic or herbal tea that are not available locally. When you buy in bulk, you are assured that you will always have a supply on hand, and you can usually save a significant amount of money as well. The second reason is that many people love to give people tea as a gift, and some people make a good living making up tea gift baskets.

Depending on the situation, buying bulk or wholesale tea can be a fantastic investment. It is also interesting to note that tea is not just a pleasant drink. It has medicinal qualities, and can be used as a dye for cloth, to help soothe irritated skin, and for those esoteric people, to read the future. Tea has been well known seemingly forever. The best tea in the world comes from China, and when you buy bulk, you can afford these magnificent teas that have been around for centuries.

Wholesale tea bags can be bought almost anywhere, but that does not mean that you can find the best tea bags anywhere. For specialty teas, it really is necessary to find an online store that can ship the tea bags to you. Most of these stores will have a flat rate shipping price, or even ship for free. This is an additional savings, especially when you compare this cost to the cost of driving around looking for wholesale tea. The real advantage of buying online, however, is just the sheer amount of choice that you will have for the most exotic teas in the world.

For those who just prefer plain black teas, this is still a great option for you. If you enjoy drinking tea, why not get the best quality black tea bags through a wholesaler, and then you can get both quantity and quality for far less price. For those who are tea connoisseurs, you can typically get custom tea leaf mixes made up for you. Some places will even provide a bulk sampler that will let you experiment with the different types of teas before you buy them in bulk. Get the best tea and get the tea that you want at a price you can afford with wholesale.

Prices of Facebook stock since long-awaited IPO

Facebook's stock has been down on 33 trading days and up on 21 since its initial public offering.

Facebook began trading publicly in mid-May following one of the most anticipated stock offerings in history. The IPO priced at $38, at the top of a projected range that Facebook had already boosted just days earlier.

Although many investors had hoped for a big first-day pop, Facebook's stock opened on May 18 at $42.05 and fluctuated between $45 and $38 throughout the day. It closed barely above its IPO price, at $38.23.

The stock had fallen sharply in the weeks following the IPO.

Investors have been concerned about its ability to keep increasing revenue and make money from its growing mobile audience, though many analysts hold positive long-term opinions.

The company, along with the investment banks that led the IPO, is the subject of dozens of shareholder lawsuits. They allege that analysts at the large underwriting investment banks cut their financial forecasts for Facebook just before the IPO and told only a handful of clients. Facebook and the banks overseeing the IPO insist that nothing about its IPO process was illegal or even out of the ordinary.

How to Party Like a President ? PICTURES

What does President Obama want for his birthday this year? As he told a crowd in Florida on Thursday, probably electoral votes ? lots of them.

?Winning Florida wouldn?t be a bad birthday present,? he said.

Today, Obama turns 51. He'll be keeping a low profile, spending his time at Camp David. Next week, however, he'll be in Chicago hosting a birthday party-turned-fundraiser for his reelection campaign.

In the past, presidential birthdays have fluctuated in scale, from John F. Kennedy's historic party-fundraiser where Marilyn Monroe cooed "Happy Birthday, Mr. President," to simple celebrations in the White House.

Below, we've compiled a visual guide to celebrating in presidential style??

Ronald Reagan:?In 1983, Reagan was ambushed on his 72nd birthday when his wife Nancy surprised him at the end of a press conference with cake. The sneak attack didn't affect his wit, though. After reporter Sam Donaldson said, "You understand we won't sell out for a piece of cake," Reagan quipped, "Oh, you've sold out for less than that."

Franklin Roosevelt:?FDR's 52nd birthday set the bar for all future presidential parties. He rented out the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City, while 6,000 parties around the country were thrown in his honor. According to?Time, the festivities included 52 young girls, "one for each year of the President's life," who mimicked a giant birthday cake by holding electric candles above their heads. In the photo above, artist Howard Chandler Christy paints a poster for the celebration. The canvas depicts America, in the form of a young woman, watching over two kids who look longingly toward the president.?

John F. Kennedy:?Quite possibly the most famous presidential party ever, JFK celebrated his birthday in 1962 with a fundraiser in New York City that drew 15,000 guests ? including Marilyn Monroe, who cooed her now-famous "Happy Birthday, Mr. President," fueling rumors of an affair. The event brought in $1,000,000. Pictured above, Kennedy watches bakers bring in his enormous cake.

Harry Truman:?He may not have thrown a party, but Truman's 61st birthday was one for the ages. On that day in 1945, the Allied Forces formally accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany, ending World War II in Europe.

Theodore Roosevelt:?The 26th president celebrated his 50th birthday in subdued fashion compared to today's standards. Hello from Nashvegas! | Skinny | Skinny Mom | How to get skinny ...

Hello All. My name is Mina, and I currently have my humble dwelling in Nashville, TN with my 17 year old daughter. You might ask yourself what credentials do I have to write about health, fitness, nutrition, etc. That?s a valid question. For the past ten years or so, I have been on a personal journey to be as healthy as I can be. Not so easy for a busy, single, working mom. But we are all WORKING moms, and in my opinion, we are better parents and pass on better values when our children see us living a healthy lifestyle.

Growing up with a father from Iran and a mother from Tennessee, I was exposed to a variety of different foods and cultures. I feel extremely fortunate with this great mix. Come on, in what house could you eat lamb with a side of biscuits? With my dark looks and name, many were shocked that this girl spoke with a southern accent! I think I got the best of both worlds. My mother was an incredible cook and my father refused to let us eat ?junk? food. What poor underprivileged children we were that almost everything we ate was homemade. As an adult, I have tried to carry with me what my parents taught me and make it not just a diet but a way of life.

In addition to healthy eating, I?ve also made it a priority to stay in shape. I think my interest in fitness started at an early age when my mother enrolled my sister and me in tap and jazz classes with Ms. Sereda. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She was tall and thin with a head full of auburn hair and always wore the thickest false eyelashes you?ve ever seen. To an impressionable young girl, she was beauty personified. It might not have sunk in during those classes, but as I?ve gotten older, I am so grateful my mother started us off with dance. Each year I?ve tried to take a different form of dance class including African dance. That?s a story for another day, but let?s just say those women in that class were very kind to this gal. That love of dance has led me to my practice of yoga. I believe it helps me with so many other things in life. Not only with other workouts, but to calm myself and breathe. I bet many of you don?t realize how often during the day you are holding your breath and stressing out.
I look forward to sharing my journey and hearing from you. Hopefully with honesty, openness, and a dash of humor. Even life needs extra flavoring :)

Namaste, Y?all.

Breast Cancer Charity Overstates Value of Mammograms: Researchers

THURSDAY, Aug. 2 (HealthDay News) -- The breast cancer charity that brought the world the pink ribbon exaggerates the benefits of mammography while minimizing its harms, researchers claim.

The organization in question is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which stated in a 2011 advertisement that the five-year survival rate for breast cancer when caught early is 98 percent, while it is only 23 percent if not caught early.

"The survival statistics they present are eye-catching and compelling. They imply that a woman would be crazy and irresponsible if they didn't go for screening," said Dr. Steve Woloshin, co-author of the article challenging the charity. "But the statistics are deceptive."

According to Woloshin's commentary, which appears online Aug. 2 in the BMJ, a woman in her 50s who goes for regular mammograms for 10 years will only cut her chance of dying by a fraction of a percentage point -- for every 10,000 women who are screened 7 deaths will be prevented.

The reason for the discrepancy?

Survival statistics calculate how long a woman lives only after diagnosis, the researchers explained.

If 100 women were diagnosed with breast cancer after feeling a lump at age 67 and all died three years later at the age of 70, the five-year survival rate would be 0 percent.

But, if the cancers were detected by mammography when the women were 64 and they still died at the age of 70, the five-year survival would be 100 percent.

Komen also minimizes the harms that can come from over-screening, according to the article.

For every woman whose life is saved by mammography, between two and 10 women are overdiagnosed, meaning they are told they have cancer when they do not and end up going through unnecessary treatment.

And up to half of women who are screened every year for a decade receive at least one false positive, meaning they have to undergo a biopsy and experience the fear of thinking they have breast cancer, if only temporarily.

The article comes at a time when there has been increasing furor over the value of breast cancer screening. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force now recommends that women in their 40s do not get regular mammograms.

In contrast, the American Cancer Society recommends that all women aged 40 and over get annual mammograms.

In the end, women need to get reliable information from their physicians or other sources about the risks and benefits of mammography. One problem is that not all primary care physicians know the right numbers to convey to their patients, according to a recent survey.

Overall, few doctors would argue that there isn't some benefit to mammography.

Dr. Stephanie Bernik, chief of surgical oncology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, supports the charity's push for cancer screening.

"As physicians, we feel that breast cancer screening is extremely beneficial," she said. "Screening does save lives, but it's probably not as dramatic as it's sometimes made out to be."

Adds Woloshin, who is professor of medicine and community and family medicine at Dartmouth School of Medicine and The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice: "There is some benefit but the magnitude is of a different order from what is implied by the ad. Women should make good decisions for themselves."

A representative of the Komen Foundation defended the organization's position.

"Everyone agrees that mammography isn't perfect, but it's the best widely available detection tool that we have today," said Chandini Portteus, Komen's vice president of research, evaluation and scientific programs. "We've said for years that science has to do better, which is why Komen is putting millions of dollars into research to detect breast cancer before symptoms start, through biomarkers, for example," she explained.

"Komen also is funding research to help accurately predict which tumors will spread and which won't," Portteus continued. "While we invest in getting those answers, we think it's simply irresponsible to effectively discourage women from taking steps to know what's going on with their health," she noted.

"The numbers are not in question," Portteus said. "Early detection allows for early treatment, which gives women the best chance of surviving breast cancer."

Australia not panicking over gold slump

Australian Olympic chiefs insisted Saturday that it was too early to start a post-mortem on why the sports-loving nation is way off its target of finishing fifth in the London 2012 medals table.

Australia has won just one event so far -- the women's 4x100m freestyle swimming relay -- making their hopes of topping their 14 golds and sixth-placed spot at Beijing 2008 seem a distant prospect.

But Australia's deputy chef de mission Kitty Chiller stressed they were "not panicking" just yet.

"We are still very positive and are only half way (through the Games)," she told a press conference.

"In terms of our top-five finish, it is still a mathematical possibility.

"In the sailing we have got four crews who are first and second and we have got canoe sprint, BMX and track and field to come.

"In women's water polo, men's hockey and women's basketball we have been dominant. Certainly the results to date haven't been what we would have expected.

"Now is not the time for post-mortems.

"Some sports will need to have a look at what was lacking in their preparations but now is not the time to address that because we still have athletes competing and we still need to be very positive for the second week."

Chiller admitted that she and chef de mission Nick Green were downbeat after watching women's kierin cycling world champion Anna Meares finish fifth in the event on Friday.

"Seeing Anna Meares missing out on a medal was disappointing," she said.

"I had dinner with Nick Green after that and we were feeling a little bit down but then we both stood up and said, 'we need to show strong leadership and be positive and strong for the rest of our team'.

"We have got some fantastic athletes yet to compete with some excellent medal chances. We are not panicking and we are not worried.

"Sure we have missed out on some medals but there are more to come and we need to maintain that positive outlook."

She said the sports had received a record amount of government money in the last four years so that could not be used an an "excuse".

However, after the Games, "the sports need to look at how they have used that money and whatever it is that is not getting us across the line."

"More money is not the answer."

Index by street address help needed - Family Tree Maker software ...

I am a relative (!) novice, and I wish to use the 'Places' feature of FTM 2012 to index my tree by Street Address. On my linked Ancestry tree in the relevent record's 'Residence' window I have extracted from the Census the Street Addresses and rather than put these in 'Location' I have put them into 'Description', knowing that at some time in the future I would have the big job of finding a way to index by these street addresses. I have a desire to 'map out' people's home addresses and cross reference them with others in my tree.
The only way I can think of to do this is to transfer said street address from 'description' to 'location' in Ancestry and then synchronise to FTM.
Having tried this with 20 street addresses I find that FTM is failing to synchronise (this may be for another reason which I am not aware of)
Is this a sensible way to achieve this, or can anyone advise a better method?
Thank you
rogtaylor

Syrian army moves on rebels in Aleppo, Damascus

ALEPPO, Syria (Reuters) - Syrian forces stormed the last rebel stronghold in the capital Damascus in tanks and armored vehicles on Friday and blasted artillery at rebels in Aleppo, where the United Nations said the army was preparing a massive assault.

The violence came within hours of former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan quitting as international peace envoy for Syria, underlining the impotence of mediation efforts in the 17-month-old uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

A senior U.N. official said a long-expected army onslaught to take Aleppo, Syria's largest city and economic hub, was imminent following a buildup of army reinforcements. The fighting in Aleppo has focused on the Salaheddine district, seen as a gateway to the city for the Syrian army.

Rebels poured into Aleppo in July after being largely driven from the capital, Damascus, where they had launched an offensive that coincided with a bomb blast that killed four top security officials. The fighting in Syria's two main cities has intensified the conflict over the past three weeks.

Rebels told Reuters journalists inside Aleppo on Friday that they had captured a large police station after days of clashes. Rebel commander Abu Zaher said fighters had taken several police officers prisoner and seized weapons and ammunition.

Other rebels said heavy fighting was taking place in Saleheddine, the main battleground district, where they estimated 20 civilians had been killed. They say 50 of their fighters have been killed there in the last several days.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said "acts of brutality" reported in Aleppo could be crimes against humanity. Both sides have accused each other of carrying out summary executions of prisoners in the city.

U.N. member states voted overwhelmingly to condemn the Syrian government at a special session of the 193-nation General Assembly that Western diplomats said highlighted the isolation of Assad supporters Russia and China.

Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin blasted the Saudi-drafted resolution, which condemned Damascus and called for a political transition, as "harmful" and said it "hides blatant support for the armed opposition." Russia and China were among the 12 nations that voted against the text, which received 133 yes votes and 31 abstentions.

DAMASCUS TO ALEPPO

In the capital, Syrian troops entered Damascus's southern district of Tadamon with dozens of tanks and armored vehicles in a push to win back the last rebel stronghold there, a witness and activists said.

Activists said most of the district was under the control of government forces by early Friday evening. The army had been trying to enter Tadamon for more than a week but was pushed back by fierce resistance from the rebels.

An activist said the troops had executed several people after entering the district. The account could not be confirmed.

"Thousands of soldiers have entered the neighborhood, they are conducting house-to-house raids," a resident, who did not want to be identified for security reasons, said by telephone.

The fighting spread to Aleppo from Damascus after the bomb attack on Assad's security headquarters in the capital on July 18, which killed four of the president's senior aides and encouraged rebels to step up hostilities.

The Syrian army has reinforced its positions in and around Aleppo over the past two weeks, while conducting daily artillery and aerial bombardments of rebel forces in the city.

"The focus two weeks ago was on Damascus. The focus is now on Aleppo, where there has been a considerable buildup of military means, and where we have reason to believe that the main battle is about to start," Herve Ladsous, the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, said in New York.

HELICOPTER BOMBARDMENT

Annan resigned on Thursday, complaining of "finger-pointing" at the United Nations while the bloodshed in Syria went on. His mission, centered on a peace plan and a ceasefire that never took hold, had looked increasingly futile amid escalating violence.

In an article published on the Financial Times website, Annan said Russia, China and Iran "must take concerted efforts to persuade Syria's leadership to change course and embrace a political transition." [ID:nR4E8D400Y]

"It is clear that President Bashar al-Assad must leave office," Annan said.

However, in a sign that Russia is not yet ready to abandon support for its ally, Moscow hosted a Syrian oil official and promised to send gasoline in return for crude that Syria is having difficulty selling because of sanctions.

"We are ready to deliver all of our oil and receive what we need in gasoline and diesel," Qadri Jamil, Syria's deputy prime minister for economic affairs, told journalists in Moscow.

At the United Nations, the 193-nation General Assembly approved a Saudi-drafted resolution that expressed "grave concern" at the escalation of violence in Syria, with 133 votes in favor, 12 against and 31 abstentions. Russia and China were among those opposed.

The resolution has the assembly "deploring the failure of the Security Council to agree on measures to ensure the compliance of Syrian authorities with its decisions."

Syrian Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari complained that the meeting was "another piece of theatre," adding that the "resolution will have no impact whatsoever."

KEY CITY

Aleppo, with its 2.5 million inhabitants, is a prize that could determine the outcome of a war the Syrian opposition says has already cost 18,000 lives.

Internet and telephone networks in Aleppo were mostly cut for the third day, hampering attempts by rebels to coordinate and forcing them to use couriers to deliver orders. Soldiers were launching rockets at insurgents from an infantry school north of Aleppo.

Areas around the city are divided, with some villages loyal to Assad and others favoring the opposition. Police and soldiers were setting up mobile checkpoints on some main roads leading into the city from the north.

There are increasing signs of quarrelling among rebel factions and between fighters and the population.

"The Free Syrian Army is causing us headaches now," said Abu Ahmed, a local official who works with journalists in the Syrian town of Azaz, near the Turkish border.

"If they don't like the actions of a person they tie him up, beat him and arrest him. Personality differences between brigade members are being settled using kidnappings and force. They are self-righteous and we are not happy about it," he told Reuters.

Elsewhere in the country, opposition activists said Syrian forces had killed at least 50 people during clashes with rebels in the central city of Hama on Thursday, while a helicopter bombardment killed 16 rebels near the southern town of Deraa.

In Damascus, at least 20 people were killed on Thursday when security forces fired three mortar rounds at a Palestinian camp that is home to 100,000 refugees, medical sources said. Palestinian leaders in the West Bank and Gaza condemned the attack.

Kristen Stewart Signs on for Lie Down In Darkness

Kristen Stewart has found a role that won't involve any awkward off-set drama. At least we hope.

The actress has reportedly beaten out Jennifer Lawrence for the lead in Lie Down In Darkness, a big screen version of William Styron’s 1951 novel.

Set in that same decade, the story will find Stewart portraying Peyton Loftis, a member of a dysfunctional family who becomes the target of her mother's jealous hatred and her father's alcoholic, incestuous lust. Ewwww.

Other movie news is a lot more awkward for Stewart these days:

She's schedule to promote Breaking Dawn Part 2 in the fall... alongside a young man who is currently a mess as a result of her cheating actions.

She's also attached to a Snow White and the Huntsman sequel... possibly opposite a director with whom she engaged in an affair and who has since been barred from contact with Stewart.

It should be interesting to note the career arc of Kristen going forward. How much will this sordid deed affect her on-screen future? It's early, but if this role nabbing is any indication, the answer is a resounding: in no way at all.
